Who Am I???

Hey all,

I find myself in a very indecisive place? I need some direction... or someone to sway my decision one way or the other. I am about to submit a photo for this self portrait project I am a part of. It is a group of photographers who are all submitting self portraits to be published in a book. The parameters were pretty wide open as far as what we could do (but we did need to be in the photo) The idea was to give a face to those behind the lens and to define yourself in your own terms.

I have never been one who liked the idea of self portraits... I would much rather learn about you and capture that, then to open myself up for others to analyze... just seems too personal. I have done a few projects in the past, and was surprised how (if I really focused on what message I was trying to get across) it could be a really insightful growing experience as an artist. But I also once did a self portrait of a dead bolted door that did not have a handle.... so obviously opening up has not always been my strength...

Anyway, the thought I had behind this current project was to focus on where I am in my life now and who I am. I had been thinking about this for a while, when in church last week someone read a quote from President Monson and I knew that would be what my piece was about.

"Walking towards the light of Christ causes the shadows of the world to fall behind us"

I wont bore anyone and go into details about why I did X,Y,Z in each photo, and what my
thoughts behind it all were. But I would like to know which piece you think is stronger to get this message across.

It will be titled "The shadows of the world fall behind"

I like the color one best (because I love your red hair) but I also like the first two better because I feel like with less shadow on your face the shadows really are falling behind you and you're coming out of the darkness.

I love them all!

I love the first one. I think it best portrays your theme(which I love). Best of luck to you!

I like the last one.

The color one! I think it goes along with the theme the best by showing a literal sort of departure from the shadow (black) since you are in color.

After viewing them all I feel more connected with the last shot. You are closer in the frame and I like how half of your face is in darkness- to me that better represents coming out of the darkness. Plus the expression on your face can't be beat.

First of all, you are gorgeous!
My favorite is the second one. Close second is the first one.

I like the first the best, but I also love your red hair. So I'm going to be pretty much unhelpful and say either 1 or 2.

Ok - Abbie & Ella choose #2 because they love your hair color (me too) My choice is #1 to go the best with your theme. That being said, you can't go wrong with any of the choices. Beautiful photos!

oh i love the last one the best! first, you look amazing. second, there is more of a definite light vs. dark. it makes me think of a light that's just starting to come out and will rotate out in front. kinda like the sun.... but honestly, all three are great. and yes, the color does stand out but i feel more of a connection with the last one. great job!

I pick the last one too. The contrasts are striking and compelling. Like you're in the process of coming out of the shadows.
