The best laid plans.... I had a couple of hours this evening to spend outside in between press runs. So back to Devils lake I went. Here is what I thought I would do. I thought I would climb the Balanced rock trail and then go on a three mile trail run just past it on the east ridge.... sigh... (this is what I found when I got to the trail)
Here is what actually happened... I started on the rock trail. I figured (before I saw it) that .I would walk it. The map said it was steep and some of the locals agreed. Yeah, that was much truer than I was expecting. I was huffing and puffing and holding on to the side of the rock wall. It was honestly an amazing view, but oh my the work it took me to get to it! After a long long time (no need to tell how long exactly ;) I reached the top. And then realized the only way to get back to my car was climbing back down. Yup no east trail running for me! Just a wobbly walk back down. The good news was that I wanted to spend some time outside and get a good workout. Success!
Yup, can you even see the trail below?!
But look it is the TOP of the tree!
Here I am... feeling a bit like I might pass out, and just about to realize I have to climb down.

Devils Lake
What do you do when you are in WI on work by yourself and have some time to kill? You go to Devils Lake. It was a bit cold but not so bad once you got moving. I went on a 3 mile run along the lake. The trail I chose was a small path throughout all the tumbled boulders. It was such a nice switch from my treadmill running. The trail had climbs and lots of quick left-right weaving. My legs feel like jelly right now :)
I have to just say I love having my new phone. I had a camera, ipod, phone, and run tracker all in one handy little item.
I love how tight the trail was at times... cannot even see it between all the rocks here.
Fingers crossed I get some down time to go back tomorrow and try a new trail.

test shoot
One of my photo friends Ty, did a test shoot the other day that reminded me that I should do more testing. His lighting was so beautiful, that I had him teach me how to do it. Mine is close, not there yet, but I love how it looks. A little jolt of creative energy :)

college writings
I can across a few of my works from college today. It was kind of a walk down memory lane reading these and remembering what prompted each passage. Some might see them as a tiny sliver of insight into who I was then, others may find them to be ramblings of a girl in her early twenties. Either way I hope you enjoy :)
"Just one," he urges, with a serpents tongue.
"Just one," she whispers, her fate seems sealed.
"A little bite; nay a nibble." he seduces on.
She sighs and stares and contemplates.

The trials come quick, like the early spring shower.
There are those moments of downpour that consume her life.
A little break, a restbit, a haven, is all that is needed.
She protects herself from those moments of downpour.
-----
Confined to who they have told her to be.
Confined to a vision she has set in her mind.
"This is my role," she gladly presents,
but wonders if there is possibly more.
More beyond the boundary and barrier that holds her in.
More beyond the shoulds and should nots that play in her mind.
More beyond who she has become.
-----
The wind blows moments of change right by.
It comes and goes and wraps around.
It lends and lifts and calls to her.
She follows the wind and realizes that she is no longer the same.
-----
The secret is in the going, in the going, and never to stop.
