Groundhog's Day

Do you remember that awful Bill Murry movie called Groundhogs day? That is what I am living right now, but only in Wisconsin instead of Pennsylvania. Every night I go to sleep waiting to get a phone call from the press men to tell me that the press is fixed and I can do my color sign off.... and every morning when I wake up I call them and they say that we are in the same situation as before. sigh! Somehow it is funnier in a movie than real life:) Here is to hoping that the press gets fixed and that I get a call at 4 in the morning that breaks this cycle. How did Bill Murry finally break it in the movie? I can't remember....

I remembered (part two)

Ok, so I guess it is only appropriate to finally post the picture that I talked about earlier. I was waiting for it to be loaded to the Ugoods website.. and then after that I just never got around to it. Here it is... I still kind of love it:)

Not only am I a Ma'am now, I am a cranky one.

Yesterday I realized (thanks to a kid on the street) that I am a ma'am.  As I was walking to the bus,  this kid was coming towards me, and he dropped a handful of garbage on the street.  He pulled it out of his bag and dropped it.  The worst part was that he was only approx. 12.5 feet away from a trash can that he was walking towards and would eventually pass.  I cannot understand this no matter how hard I try, but it is a phenomenon that I have seen so many times in this city.  Anyway I usually don't say anything, but yesterday my sensor in my head must of been on a break 'cuz with a giant sigh I looked at him and said "you have got to be kidding me, you are about to pass the trash can. What, it was too much work to carry your garbage ten more feet?"

The kid looked embarrassed and said "oh sorry ma'am"  he went back and picked it up and threw it away.  I felt like all that I needed to do to make my comment to him complete would be to raise my finger to the air and say "it's up to you and me to keep our streets clean." then tussle his hair and call him a good kiddo.

Now that I think about it it was a soda bottle, I should have made him recycle it... next time:)

Oh Bren.....

Check out this link to my dear friend Brenda's blog.  I don't know what to say except thanks Bren.  That post brightened my day enormously!

It Finally Happened

I started this blog to note all of the truly insane, bizarre, unique, and habitual things that tend to happen in my life (especially in this city)  Well... after starting the blog... nothing of consequense happened.  I was overjoyed thinking somehow I had found a way to un-jinx 25 years of "luck" (I refuse to consider myself unlucky)  But alas tonight waiting on the platform for the A train at the 125 stop it found me.  Walking down the platform I passed a post and right as I walked by it I heard the sound of someone spitting.. that is right I was spit on by some punk kid.  He looked at me as said I was aiming for the track and then walked away. No offer to wipe his loogie off my coat. No apology.  Just me standing there with a spit wad on me.  I suppose I should be positive about the whole situation.  It was just on my coat,  At least it wasn't my ear!

A Happy Moment

So I was going through some old CDs and DVDs last night and I came across this picture. I have to say that this is one of my happiest memories from the BYU photo program.  We were suppose to be doing an assignment in the basement studio (the dungeon) and like usual it turned into a three hour self portrait session.

I know, I know, it is a wonder we learned anything with how much we just liked to have fun and do silly things like this... but as I look at this picture I am overwhelmed with things that really matter.  I think far beyond the knowledge I gained, the most valuable thing I can attribute to my years in the program was the life long friendships.  I miss you guys:)

I Remembered...

Today I remembered why I love photography so much.  It has been far too long since a picture I was working on seemed to be the whole reason for my day.  With each adjustment the whole scene evolved in-front of my eyes to become something amazing and quite elegant.  It was a simple shot really, some glasses... but as I worked and watched the pieces come together I was ecstatic.  The sharp lines, the colors, and the gradients from gray to white!  So silly I know, but for a photo nerd like myself I was in heaven.  I remembered how great it feels to create something... to see it in your head and get it out for others to see... and sometimes it even turns out a bit better than you thought up (thanks to an idea my boss had about adding a swirl of wine to one of the glasses).  What a great and productive day.

My First Post!

So after much persuasion I have been convinced to start a blog.  And I figured what better day to start than the first day with my new imac computer!  (My black Friday purchase) This blog is dedicated to all of you who kept pestering me to blog my New York City experiences.  Emily, James, and Lindsay this blog is for you and for all of you who have laughed, cried, or sighed with my tales from this city.
